TAUNTON Deane Mayor Dave Durdan is returning to the church where he was christened 69 years ago to raise money for local causes.

His granddaughter, Sophie Durdan, aged 15, will sing with blues and harmonica player Johnny Mars at the ‘musical anthem for Taunton’ event at St James Church.

The male voice choirs of Taunton Deane and Bristol are also performing at the concert at 7.15pm on Saturday, March 21.

It will raise money for the Mayor’s Charity, Somerset Community Foundation, which will support causes in the area.

Also in aid of the fund is a charity quiz supper at The Monkton Inn, West Monkton, at 7pm on Tuesday, March 17, when participants are asked to take along a raffle prize.

Tickets at £13 – with £3 going to the Mayor’s Charity – include a meal and a drink and are available from the pub.
