POLICE are hunting a boy and girl suspected of stealing a disabled woman’s mobility scooter while she was shopping.

Rosie Sayer’s vehicle was taken while she was inside business premises in Middle Street, Taunton, prior to visiting her sick husband in hospital.

A witness later reported seeing two children riding the vehicle in the St James Street area.

Mrs Sayer, age 68, of Hillfarrance, who has undergone two life-saving operations in recent years, has labelled the thieves “low life”.

She said: “Justice comes in many different ways and they must be aware that what goes around comes around.

“It’s such a low life thing to do and so sad that anyone could actually do this to someone who is so obviously disabled.

“I can only walk very short distances, and even then it’s laborious and slow, and I’m partially sighted.

“Another customer said she saw the mobility scooter outside just five minutes before I left.

“My daughter, Sarah, was running around trying to find it, but it had disappeared, although a builder said he’d seen two youngsters with it.”

Jack Matthews, Mrs Sayer’s friend, said the theft had been “upsetting at a time of great need” with her husband in hospital.

He added: “I sincerely hope that the thieves are caught and dealt with in an appropriate manner for their actions defy description.

“They will have to live with this despicable action, which may come back to haunt them in the future.”

Mrs Sayer has since bought a replacement scooter paid for by her insurance firm.

A police spokesman said: “We’re investigating the theft of a black mobility scooter which was parked in Middle Street, Taunton, at around 2.15pm on Friday.

“Anyone with any information, particularly about a boy and girl seen riding it please call Taunton Police on 101 quoting reference 54179/15.”
