WAR time memories are evoked for anyone going past Graham Adlam’s home – he’s got a replica Spitfire in his garden.

The plane has featured in several movies, including Pearl Harbour, when Ben Affleck sat in the cockpit, and has also been in Dr Who and film First Light.

Now you have the chance to sit in the pilot’s seat and see the aircraft running when it stars in the fifth Battle of Britain Living History Show at the West Somerset Railway Association fields in Norton Fitzwarren on Saturday and Sunday, August 29 and 30.

The plane is the only full scale static replica in the world of fighter ace Jonny Johnson’s Mk IX Spitfire EN 398 with a working 27-litre Rolls Royce Merlin engine which can be transported by road to events.

The original was one of the most of the most successful Spitfires in the Second World War, shooting down 18 enemy aircraft.

Jonny Johnson, who flew it, destroyed 34 enemy planes and was Britain's top scoring fighter pilot ace.

It travels from Graham’s garden in Norton Fitzwarren to events all over the country, recently winning best infield display at the Silverstone Classic event.
