POLICE have found a body in the search for missing Taunton man Scott McCafferty.

Officers have been trawling the River Tone for the past few weeks in the search for Scott, and have today confirmed they found a body of a man at midday today near Ruishton.

Specialist police divers were bought in by Avon and Somerset Police after Scott was first reported missing one month ago on January 4, and have searched from French Weir towards Ruishton, including Taunton town centre.

Police divers have already trawled a stretch of the River Tone from French Weir towards the town centre.

Scott's family has been informed of the find.

A spokesman from Avon and Somerset Police said: "The body of a man has been found during the search for missing Scott McCafferty.

"Mr McCafferty, 33, was reported missing on 4 January from the Taunton area.

"The body of a man was recovered from the River Tone near Ruishton at approximately 12pm today.

"While formal identification is yet to be carried out, Mr McCafferty’s family has been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and we are now carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner."
