FIREFIGHTERS were called to a suspected arson attack at a property in South Somerset.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident at the Recreation Ground in Eastover, Langport, at 8.35pm yesterday.

One fire appliance from Somerton was attended the incident, but while on route, crews became aware that the fire was starting to spread to a building so called in help from an extra two appliances from Martock and Yeovil.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed this to be a fire involving wheelie bins which had spread to the roof and fascia of the building.

The building was evacuated, crews isolated the electrics to the property and then extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets. A thermal imaging camera was also used.

The bins were completely destroyed by fire and the building suffered approximately 10 per cent fire damage.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.
