A CRANE is arriving at the disused Station Road bridge in Taunton today (Tuesday, May 24).
It is expected to lift the bridge from its home since Victorian times some time tomorrow (Wednesday).
A new bridge will replace it at a later date.
The structure will link up the two ends of the Northern Inner Distributor Road connecting Staplegrove Road at Chip Lane with Priory Avenue.
The new road will ease congestion in the town centre and along Greenway and Priorswood Roads.
It will also open up the prospect of a multi-million pound homes, offices, leisure facilities and shops development on the derelict Firepool site.
The bridge earlier this morning before workers arrived.
A pavement under the bridge was opened up for pedestrians late last night until earlier this morning. You'll have to use a temporary footpath for the rest of the day though.
A lone pigeon that failed to get the message to move while the work is carried out.
