NEW homes could be built near Minehead and Cotford St Luke if plans are approved by Somerset West and Taunton Council (SWT).

A developer has submitted proposals for a 52-home village development to the east of North Villas in Cotford St Luke.

S. Notaro Ltd would construct eight three-bedroom homes, 29 four-bedroom homes, and 15 affordable homes if permission is granted by SWT.

All of the houses would have on-plot parking with garages and courtyard areas.

A statement submitted with the application said: “The development will deliver clear economic, social and environmental benefits.

“The development will provide 52 additional dwellings, including 15 affordable homes in an area where there is a need for further housing growth.”

New homes could also be built on a plot of land next to Minehead Cemetery, on the doorstep of Exmoor National Park.

Acorn Developments SW Ltd. has applied to build 10 homes on Porlock Road.

The Taunton-based developer has previously delivered new homes on Periton Lane and The Shires within Minehead.

The homes would have either three or four bedrooms, and a total of 38 parking spaces will be provided within the site.

SWT is expected to make a decision on the plans by the end of the year.

A spokesman for Boon Brown Architects (representing the applicant) said: “The architectural language of the proposal has again taken cues from the wider context of the town, expressing key design features and maintaining a consistent material palette appropriate to the location of the site.”
