MEMBERS of a lunch and social club based in a village near Taunton have raised nearly £600 for The Wivey Link.

The Milverton Friday Club took part in a sponsored walk on Friday, September 16 to raise money for the service, which was set up to combat rural isolation.

Its red vehicles can be seen across West Somerset. The volunteer-run service helps people without access to transport, with fares starting at £4.56.

Several members use the service to get to Milverton Recreation Club on Fridays to enjoy lunches, entertainment, and camaraderie with their friends.

Without the Wivey Link vehicles and volunteers, they would otherwise be unable to attend the Friday Club.

A group spokesperson said: “As it was a lovely sunny late summer’s day, those who felt like a walk in the sunshine did laps of the Recreation Ground while those who preferred to stay indoors walked lengths of the main hall.

“There was much clapping and cheering as each member fulfilled their personal target and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, while also raising almost £600 for a very worthwhile cause.”
