FEARLESS fundraisers will brave an icy plunge in the sea on New Year's Day to support their local hospice.

St Margaret's Hospice held its first-ever charity dip in March and is encouraging people to join in at the event's return to Minehead Beach on January 1, 2023.

The charity is running an early bird offer until Friday, December 16, allowing fundraisers to secure their place for £9 with the code EARLYBIRD23. Entry will cost £12 afterwards.

All sponsorship money raised will help St Margaret's continue to care for and support families across Somerset facing a life-limiting illness.

Kate Allam took part in the New Year’s Day Dip in 2022 to pay tribute to her husband Ray, who received hospice care after he was diagnosed with cancer.

She said it was the perfect way to remember Ray and support St Margaret’s Hospice.

Kate said: “When you plunge into the cold water you get this rush of adrenaline, I can’t explain it but there’s nothing like it!

“So, if you’ve never done a dip before I’d encourage you to go ahead and try it. It’s so much fun and it’s a great way to support your local hospice.”

Every day, St Margaret’s nurses visit patients across Somerset with an end-of-life diagnosis - a vital service, especially in rural communities like West Somerset.

Ellie Weston, marketing and events officer at St Margaret’s, said: “We can’t wait to join our supporters on the beach.

“Whether you are from Minehead or further afield, why not blow the cobwebs away on New Year’s Day with a trip to the beach?

“Not only does immersing yourself in cold water bring great health benefits, but you will also be raising vital funds to ensure St Margaret’s Hospice can continue supporting patients and their families in Somerset.

“Our early bird offer is live for just a few more days, so please do sign up and get involved!

“Everyone who takes part will receive a St Margaret’s bobble hat, a chance to enter our raffle to win a dry robe and a hot drink after their dip.

“We hope to see as many of you there as possible!”
