A ROAD near Wiveliscombe has been closed because of ice, with drivers asked to seek another route if they need to travel into or out of the town.

The B3227 New Road, also known as Devil's Elbow, shut at around 12 noon today (Saturday, December 17).

The closure follows Travel Somerset, the county council's roads information service, warning drivers of a build-up of ice on the road just after 11.30am.

Teams are at the scene to break up the ice and put down additional salt.

A spokesperson said: “B3227 New Road (Devil's Elbow) near Wiveliscombe is to be closed due to ice on road and for safety, please seek an alternative route.”

They previously said: “Significant amounts of ice has built up on the B3227 New Road (Devil’s Elbow) near Wiveliscombe - just past the Challick Lane junction.

“Water seepage from adjacent fields means we are now applying additional salt and attempting to break up/remove the ice.”

The ice build-up is located between Challick Lane and Spears Lane in Waterrow.
