A SIGN promoting Watchet has recently been stolen, not once, but twice.

The sign, which was put up to encourage visitors to see all that the Somerset town has to offer, was stolen first on Friday evening.

It was later discovered on the railway after 14 of its thick cable ties had been cut.

The sign was recovered, only to be stolen once again and discovered in a hedge.

A spokesperson from the Avon and Somerset Police Force has said: “We received a call last night (Sunday February 12) reporting a sign had been cut down and stolen at some point between 7-10pm that evening.

“The informant said the sign had also been removed two days earlier from the same location near Swain Street before being restored yesterday.

“Witnesses, or anybody that may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, can call 101 and quote reference number 5223034936.”

Anyone with any information on the repeat incidents are urged to come forward.

John Richards, chairman of WACET (Watchet Chamber of Trade), said: “This cost WACET £60 and the police need any information they can get.

“If you have seen anything between 7 and 10 Sunday evening, or anyone fiddling on the bridge, please let me and the police know.

“Someone who lives here does not want Watchet to survive!”
