POLICE teams in Somerset have been working together to target agricultural theft.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police's rural affairs unit joined forces with Bath and North East Somerset neighbourhood policing to conduct an operation to stop offenders.

The teams covered the A37 and surrounding areas, and stopped plant and machinery vehicles and trailers to see if they were stolen or not.

During the operation, a suspected stolen trailer was seized.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset's rural affairs unit said: "Unfortunately, the theft of agriculture plant and machinery continues to be an ever-growing issue across the UK.

"This operation covered the A37 and surrounding areas, during which officers stopped all kinds of plant and machinery, vehicles and trailers to conduct checks to ascertain if they were stolen or not.

"During the Op a suspected stolen trailer was seized and will now be subject to further lines of enquiry."
