A 'GRAND celebration of rural life' is returning to Somerset later this year.

The Royal Bath & West Show is back for 2024, showcasing the best of the region's food and farming, with activities, entertainment, demonstrations, showjumping and much more.

The show is returning to the Shepton Mallet showground from May 30 until June 1.

Jess Chiplen, head of shows, said: “Somerset has a rich – and delicious – food producing history.

“Take the 800-year-old tradition of cheesemaking; the county’s rich pastures are perfect for producing creamy milk from the dairy herds the land has nourished. And we have the age-old practice of cider making, with 156 apple varieties which have a connection to the county and its orchards.

“Farming and food have always been – and will forever remain – at the heart of our annual show.”

There will be an array of British, continental and rare breed cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and heavy horse breeds, which will be exhibited and shown by stockmen and women competiting for a spot in the grand parade.

As well as a full programme of showjumping, scurry racing and pony club games. Jame Squibb's team of professional motorbike riders performing extreme tricks.

There will also be a family-friendly Lakeside Farm and Discover the Future area to help bring science and farming to life, with activities for the whole family.

The Great British Kitchen will be offering live demonstrations, with celebrity chefs taking part and local produce being highlighted.

A new area is launching this year as well - Bark & West. This will feature dog friendly stalls, dog shows and high-speed agility.

Ms Chiplen added: “Visitors to the show will of course be treated to the usual mix of shopping aisles, curated show gardens, celebrity guests, art and a plethora of craft.

"Live music will be playing out across the showground with the hugely popular Pilton Tent vibing into the evening – and don’t forget to book your pitch for on-site camping. We can’t wait to welcome one and all.”

Tickets can now be purchased on the Bath & West website, and are on sale until May 16.
