AN 'iconic' band from the 70s and 80s will visit Somerset as part of their UK tour later this February.

The Beat will be coming to Frome’s Cheese & Grain on Saturday, February 24 to energise audiences with some of the most famous ska and reggae tracks ever written.

The band of Brummies played a key role in the UK ska revival of the late 1970s-80s.

Their debut single Tears of a Clown went Top Ten in the UK and they soon struck a deal with Arista to distribute on their own Go Feet label.

Tickets for the Somerset gig can be purchased through the Cheese & Grain website for £21.50.

The Beat's debut studio album Just Can’t Stop went Gold in England, and included the well-known single Mirror In The Bathroom.

A spokesperson for the group said: "The Beat still bring the near-perfect balance of pop melodies and taut rhythms that made them stars and won them worldwide acclaim.

"Their ferocious live performances and clever blend of personal and political lyrics continue to make them stars to this day, and they’ll be diving into their back catalogue at these new shows."
