Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Dyke visited Frome's new Safer School Streets zone ahead of it becoming operational this month.
The MP for Somerton and Frome attended the site to check on the work's progress and learn more about the scheme.
It is designed to enhance pupil safety and will will limit vehicle access during school drop-off and pick-up schedules.
Implemented around Frome's educational institutions, namely Trinity School, Critchill School, Oakfield Academy, and Avanti Park, the scheme is set to benefit up to 1,415 pupils.
Residents, emergency services, buses, and individuals with disabilities can still access the streets unrestricted.
Scheduled to start its 18-month trial stint on April 22, the Safer School Streets initiative is the first within a proposed series across Somerset.
Sarah Dyke expressed her support for the pilot scheme, stating: "I’m really pleased to support this pilot scheme, designed to significantly improve the safety of children cycling, walking and wheeling to school and to cut down on traffic congestion at peak drop-off and pick-up times."
She addressed initial concerns raised by parents and residents but assured that "many of these will prove to be short-lived."
