The Taunton Fundraising Branch of the RNLI will welcome Sir Terry Waite for a talk at Taunton Racecourse.

The event will take place at the Conference Centre on April 25.

It will get underway from 6.30pm, with doors opening at 5.30pm.

In 1980, Mr Waite was the special envoy of the Archbishop of Canterbury, in charge of negotiating the release of hostages abroad.

He was taken hostage himself in 1987.

Mr Waite, now involved with various humanitarian charities including Y Care International and Hostage UK, will offer his expertise at the benefit talk for the RNLI.

Somerset County Gazette:

The RNLI is celebrating 200 years of lifesaving service this year.

All of their work is helped by volunteers giving their time and through public donations.

Since the charity was founded in 1824, the RNLI has saved 146,452 lives - 14,967 of those in the South West region alone.

Tickets for the talk are £20 and can be purchased by emailing rnlitaunton@outlook.com or calling 01823 480221.
