A MAN had to be rescued by fire services after a crash saw him trapped inside an overturned vehicle last night.

The A38 Exeter Road in Wellington was closed from Rockwell Green to the Beambridge Inn as a result of the incident, which took place just outside the inn at around 5.45pm.

After being freed from his vehicle by Wellington Fire Station crews, the driver went to hospital with injuries not currently believed to be either life-threatening or life-changing.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 5.49pm on Thursday, April 25, to reports that a car that was on its roof and the driver trapped on Exeter Road near Wellington, Somerset.

"Two appliances from Wellington Fire Station were dispatched and worked to stabilise the vehicle and extricate the driver using small tools.

"The casualty was handed over to ambulance crews and the scene left in the hands of the police."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police added: "Emergency services attended a single-vehicle collision on the A38 on the outskirts of Wellington at about 5.45pm on Thursday, April 25.

"It happened near the Beambridge Inn.

"A car overturned and the driver was reportedly trapped.

"The driver, a man, went to hospital with injuries not currently believed to be either life-threatening or life-changing.

"The vehicle, a red Suzuki Swift, was recovered and police had left the scene by 9.40pm.
