TAUNTON Town manager Leigh Robinson is confident his side can enjoy a successful season in Division 1 (S&W) of the Southern league.

The Peacocks, who entertain North Leigh at the Viridor Stadium this afternoon (3pm), started the season in bouyant mood after finishing in eighth position last time out including a run of nine successive wins with which to finish the campaign.

That culminated with victory in the final of the Somerset Premier Cup.

And after a promising pre-season the Peacocks have picked up four points from their first two matches.

On Saturday they beat newly-promoted Wantage Town 3-0, and although Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Clevedon Town was a disappointment, spirits remain high at the Viridor Stadium.

Robinson said: “I am very confident that we have all the ingredients to have a very successful season.

“That said, there are numerous teams in the league that will be saying or thinking that and that have equally as good players as we have.

“Most likely success and failure for all teams in this division will be decided by who keeps key players fit, who can sustain their budget, and who has the best togetherness in their squad.

“What I would say is that am fairly confident that this is the best Taunton team for many a year and provided we can keep people fit across the season we have a good chance.”

The Peacocks have been strengthened by summer recruits Brett Trowbridge from Weston-super-Mare and Joe Bushin from Bridgwater Town plus Aidan Chainey from Tiverton Town.

On Tuesday Taunton entertain Fleet Town (7.45pm).
