Wellington 136 lost to Bishops Lydeard 142-2 by eight wickets

WELLINGTON crashed to a heavy defeat at basement side Bishops Lydeard on Saturday and took just two points from a game that gave the home side just a second win of the season.

But the overall effect is little impact on Welly’s pursuit of a place in the new look WEPL for 2016 or Lydeard finishing bottom of the pile.

Batting first Wellington never really get going apart when Paul Short (40) and Luke Desave (34) were adding 66 runs for the fifth wicket, after Alex Sparks with 17 had been the best of the rest.

The pair took the score from 52-4 to 118-4 before Desave got one that bounced on him and he was caught in the gully - Short followed with the score on the same total.

Wellington were all out for 136 with 15.3 overs unused and Alcock’s 4-20 had done the damage.

Although Thom Trott induced Lydeard skipper Hayward to play on to the third ball of the innings the only other success to come Wellington’s way was when Luke Desave held a good boundary catch off of Jack Beal.

Wellington tried all of the options available, but Taylor with 42 not out and Clark with 49 not out, to go with four wicket keeping dismissals, would not be parted.

They added 81 runs to win it for Lydeard with half the overs left.
