Somerset Premier/First Division Cup

Bishops Lydeard 4 Middlezoy Rovers 0

BISHOPS Lydeard cruised into the next round of the Premier/First Division Cup with a commanding 4-0 win over Middlezoy Rovers.

Two goals apiece from Mark Clunie and Joe Chamberlain helped book Lydeard's place in round two, against a Middlezoy side dominating the first division.

From start to finish Lydeard were in control and played some of their best football of the season.

The Bishops had a good platform to build this victory on and after ten minutes, good possession culminated in Charlie Wislon picking out Joe Chamberlain on the right hand side,

His pin point cross found Mark Clunie on the angle of the penalty area, who struck another sweet volley, similar to the previous week, into the far corner.

To be fair Middlezoy rallied and their lively striker caused the Bishops back four a few problems, but the dependable unit dealt with this threat.

Despite considerable possession Lydeard could not get that elusive second goal and the score remained 1-0 at half time.

The second-half started in a similar vein as last week's game, in so much as the home team got the all important second within five minutes of the restart.

Wilson again was influential as he gained possession wide on the right and his teasing ball in behind the visitors defence found the lively Chamberlain, who clinically finished from six yards.

Lydeard now in control and with a two goal cushion were able to dominate, so it came as no surprise when on 70 minutes, that combination of a Wilson cross and a Chamberlain finish put the game beyond doubt.

Then on 85 minutes, man of the match Mark Clunie put the cream on top after a mazy dribble into the box and good finish from a tight angle made sure Lydeard went into the hat for the next round.
