SOMERSET have been boosted by the return of Craig and Jamie Overton ahead of today's trip to the Kia Oval to face Surrey, with both named in the 12-man squad for the County Championship clash.

Neither twin played in last week's draw at Durham, with Jamie recovering from a calf injury and Craig serving the second of a two-match ban, but the pair returned to action in this week's draw with Cardiff MCCU at Taunton Vale (see page 114) - and director of cricket, Matt Maynard says the three-day match against the students was 'very productive'.

He said: “Surrey always produce as good a cricket wicket as possible and it will be a case of going up there and building on what we have done this week.

“All of our bowlers have gone about their business well and I thought we bowled in great areas, especially Craig Overton, while Jamie is getting into a good rhythm and so is Lewis Gregory as well as Tim Groenewald.

“It has been a very productive week and we hope to go there and replicate that.

“Our batters didn’t have too much time at the crease up at Durham so the game against Cardiff was a good work out and better than any net practice they could have had."

All-rounder Josh Davey is the player to miss out altogether and Maynard admits he now faces some tough selection decisions ahead of the weekend.

He said: “The batsmen all got runs in the week and are in a good place and I think we will have a difficult choice to make on what 11 we go with at the Oval.

“We will have two hard days of practice at the ground on Thursday and Friday before travelling on Saturday morning and practicing there in the afternoon so we can see what its like."

Somerset’s squad will be: Trescothick, Abell, Rogers, Hildreth, Allenby, Van der Merwe, Trego, Davies, Gregory, Groenewald, C Overton and J Overton.
